REF2021
In REF2021, 51% of the University of Chester research assessed was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent, compared with 31% in REF2014. The University submitted to 19 of the 34 subject-based Units of Assessment.
REF2021 assessed three elements within each submission: research outputs; the reach and significance of impact beyond academia; and the environment supporting research.

REF2014
The University submitted to 16 Units of Assessment in REF2014. All submitted academic areas included research assessed as internationally excellent, and many included research assessed as world-leading.
