Melrose Garden Companion
About
I provide reliable, friendly garden support to help people keep their gardens looking cared for and enjoyable. I work mainly with older people across Chester, building genuine relationships with my clients and treating every garden with the same care I would give my own.
I never thought I would arrive in Chester knowing nobody and, through a bit of luck, encouragement and support from the Venture team, build something that has become my main source of income and purpose.
Since starting, I have grown from a simple, functional business idea into a fully established local business. With my mentor Hems guidance, I have created a more meaningful name, an eye-catching logo, and a clever tagline. Even going further by learning how to build my own website that is cohesive with the company's work t-shirts. Lastly, the funding allowed for the purchase of high-quality tools, which has grown the business potential, financial return and efficiency substantially.
I have now helped over 40 clients in Chester and am fully booked one month in advance.
Venture Pitch Journey
Ryan participated in the University of Chester's Venture Pitch in 2026, securing funding, a mentoring package and a 12 month West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce Membership.
Ryan said "The biggest thing I have gained has been self-belief. Gardening might be a simple profession, but it is nothing to be ashamed of. When it is done well, it can have a mighty impact on people's lives. I am proud to be building the business alongside pursuing my higher education."
